Going backpacking in europe made me look at loads of graffiti and street art. I think being away from internet and tv made me look at art a little differently, and it definitely fired me up to create art just for myself rather than thinking about the end result or benefit from it.

When you think about graffiti, there are folks putting so much time and effort (and risk) into their craft with little thought of outcome other than getting better at it for themselves. That in itself is extremely inspiring. Anyway since I got back I’ve been playing about with graffiti styles in my sketchbook and as I’m not likely to risk getting arrested for this stuff anytime soon I thought I’d share this on the blog. A lot of this has influenced my current work in comics and animation so even if I don’t continue the graffiti I’m happy with the influence on my drawing style.
